Secondary Design Technology

General information

Every pupil in the secondary school of IST has the opportunity to study Design Technology.

Grades 6 to 8

In grades 6 to 8 every pupil will receive one lesson of design technology per week.  During that time they will complete a series of design and make tasks which will develop their individual skills, competencies and understanding in this subject. This process will prepare them for the examination courses at IGCSE and IB Diploma.  Pupils will study computer aided design & manufacturing, electronics, graphics and product design.

Grades 9 & 10 IGCSE

Design technology is an optional 2 year course that starts in grade 9 leading to an IGCSE qualification .  During the course students will complete a series of theory modules and design & make projects in preparation for the external assessments.  Final assessment is by two examinations and one design & make project.

Grades 11 & 12 IB Diploma

Design technology is a Group 4 (Science) subject at diploma level and is offered at both higher and standard levels.  The course has an emphasis towards product design and commercial production.  The students will learn about commercial manufacturing processes and theory as well business applications.  Assessment is by end of course examinations and a design project.
